The Arete Prep Boys Varsity Soccer team made history on Thursday night, clinching the program's first region title, defeating Chandler Prep 2-1 in Overtime. Senior Owen Whitehead opened the scoring once again for the Chargers, giving them a 1-0 halftime lead. The Titans fought back in the second, to tie the game and force overtime. Freshman Blade Hingson supplied the match winner as he scored off of a Whitehead assist in the second OT.
The Chargers clinched the region outright, as Horizon Honors defeated San Tan Charter tonight, 3-2. Arete still has two regular season games on the schedule (Monday SENIOR NIGHT vs. N. Phx Prep, and next Saturday at Veritas Prep) before they will likely host a 2A State Tournament game. The top 16 teams in 2A will battle it out for a State Championship. Arete Prep are currently ranked #6 in the latest standings.
Congratulations to Coach Whitehead, Coach B. Richards, Coach C Richards, and Coach Kuzara for their commitment to developing our kids and our program. Congratulations to a very deserving group of young men for bringing home the hardware!
Go Chargers!
