The Arete Prep girls and boys varsity basketball teams both won AIA 2A State Play in games last week, sending them to the 16 team State Tournament next weekend in Prescott. Arete is one of only seven 2A  schools with boys team's qualifying for the tourney.

The #16 girls dominated #17 Kingman Academy from start to finish, winning 61-23. Junior Grace Howell tied her school record with 7 three pointers, finishing with a game high 22 points. This is the girls 4th consecutive trip to the State Tournament under Head Coach Jake Howell.

The #11 boys grinded out a 51-46 win over fellow Great Hearts academy Glendale Prep (#22) on Friday. Sophomore Isaiah Rubio led the chargers with 21 points in the win. The boys, led by longtime Coach Mike Caviness, returns to the State Tournament for the 3rd time in 4 seasons.

Howell and Ryan Mourad continue to prove themselves as two of the top three point shooters in the state across all conferences. They have each broken their own school records for three pointers made in a season. With 82 makes, Mourad (16.9 ppg) is currently 7th in the state across all divisions, and with 84 makes, Howell (12.5 ppg) ranks 3rd headed into the State Tournament.

Join the Stampede up in Prescott Friday, at Yavapai College. The boys take on #6 AZ lutheran at 4:30pm, followed by the girls against #1 PCDS at 6pm.
